According to Maruti Suzuki chairman Mr Bhargava, taxis will overtake private cars in sales soon. This is largely due to Ola and Uber and this is scary news for the automobile sector. The anticipated trend of "NOT wanting to own a car, when one can access it at the touch of a button" is coming sooner in India than one would have thought. Anand Mahindra was one of the first to recognize this and rush towards a partnership with Ola. While car sales from taxi services might go up in the short run, in the long run, more efficient utilization of cars will lead to a drop in automobile sales. More in this article
