The retail park format is a well-established retailing format in western and southern Europe and looks to be located on easily accessible major roads outside of the city centre, offering large free surface level car parks. It is anchored by a large hypermarket or DIY operators such as Tesco, Real, Carrefour, OBI, Castorama, Praktiker or Leroy Merlin, with a single level complimentary food shopping mall in front and large adjoining retail units ranging in size. These retailers are true destination operators attracting customers who will specifically visit their store with the intention of making a major food or non-food purchase rather than the more regular and often impulse driven nature of the shopping centre customer.
