Attacking Stock-Outs
nielsen
Retail Out-of-Stocks (OOS) are widespread and costly to both manufacturer and retailer--not to mention frustrating for the consumer they are trying to serve. There are many highly-interrelated factors that contribute to OOS situations, but roughly 75% are caused by actions and policies at the store level. Fixing the problems to reduce OOS requires analysis of the root causes so that actions truly attack the systemic issues and not just the symptoms. Simply adding manpower or more inventory will add more cost without reducing the likelihood of stock-outs.
