The Indian retail sector has witnessed unprecedented growth over the last decade, driven by robust economic growth, rapid urbanization and changing lifestyles and aspirations of the Indian consumer. From less than a million square feet of mall space in 2001, Indian organized retail sector now boasts of close to 55 million square feet of organized retail space. In this paper, the authors present a calibrated Retail Attractiveness Index for the top 20 retail destinations of India, shedding further light on the market conditions and potential of these cities.
